An online module launched by PIF member the National Rheumatoid Arthritis Society (NRAS) aims to help people start exercising safely.

Many people affected by rheumatoid arthritis worry about whether exercising with their condition will make it worse.

The Importance of Physical Activity and Exercise discusses the science, benefits and myths around exercising with arthritis.

The module features medical experts and people with lived experience. It also includes 15-minute video taster sessions on:

  • Yoga
  • Tripudio movement systems
  • Tai chi
  • Strengthening resistance
  • Movement to music.

Each one is adapted for people with rheumatoid arthritis. Most of the exercises can be done seated or standing.

The module is on the charity’s SMILE-RA hub.

SMILE-RA is a free interactive modular programme. People living with, or caring for someone with, rheumatoid arthritis can choose which modules they want to use.

Each module covers different subjects. Most take around 30 minutes to complete.
