A new report says the pandemic has put extra strain on already stretched neurology services.
The MS Society says the UK Government must do more to protect people with MS from long-term progression of their condition and to support the neurology workforce.
Its research found nearly a third (29%) of people living with MS had appointments cancelled or delayed during the pandemic.
Nearly two thirds (63%) of MS professionals find it very challenging to provide a good service to everyone.
Other key findings include:
- People's MS symptoms got worse during the pandemic
- More than half (53%) said this caused by a lack of specialist support
- A quarter of people with MS needed to see an MS nurse or neurologist over the past 12 months but have been unable to
The MS Society has published an open letter telling governments across the UK to act now and give urgent funding and support to neurology and MS services.
