PIF member Tommy's has published new information on induction of labour. The resources were created after PIF's Maternity Decisions survey found more than 6 in 10 women did not have enough information to make an informed decision on induction. Only 1 in 4 felt prepared by the information they received.
Tommy's new resources aim to meet this need for clear, evidence-based information. They will help women, birthing people and their partners to make informed decisions about labour and birth, as well as supporting effective conversations with midwives and doctors. Resources were developed with insight from experts including Dr Abi Merriel, Dr Karen Joash, Mars Lord and Dr Alex Freeman. Tommy's also consulted a large focus group of women with lived experience.
PIF director Sophie Randall said: "It is fantastic to see PIF survey work producing tangible impact. These new resources from Tommy's are the result of more than 2,000 women sharing their lived experience. Tommy’s has filled the induction information gap. At PIF we hope NHS maternity services signpost this information to support and empower people making decisions about induction of labour."
