Report on AI in healthcare; new guide to patient partnerships; increase in online GP appointments

National Commission into the Regulation of AI in Healthcare publishes report

Earlier this year PIF submitted evidence to the MHRA to inform its recommendations to the National Commission into the Regulation of AI in Healthcare. The Commission has now shared the results of its call for evidence, as well as a report on wider research and engagement activities. 

The call for evidence received 761 responses. The National Commission will continue to consider the findings as it develops and refines the recommendations it will make to the MHRA, health system, and wider government.

PIF team contributes to updated Good Patient Partnership Guide

Precision AQ - International's fourth Good Patient Partnership Guide was released this week, focused on patient journey mapping with the patient community, not for them. It considers how advocacy partnerships can create more illuminating, credible, equitable and actionable insight.

PIF director Sophie Randall and our communications manager Sheena Campbell are listed as contributors to this edition, which includes case studies from PIF.

Increase in online and video GP appointments

GP appointment data shows that online and video consultations increased by more than 1.2 million in April 2026 compared with the same month last year. The figures reflect continued growth in digital access to primary care, alongside a rise in overall GP appointments.

Blog: How to tackle men’s health inequalities

Over the past year, The King’s Fund has been running a project exploring how different groups of men think about their health and how they experience health services. The work was commissioned by the Department of Health and Social Care as part of wider work on the Men’s Health Strategy for England. For Men’s Health Week, it has pulled out six key considerations for policymakers, commissioners and service providers for supporting men’s health.

Cancer charity to host inaugural conference

The first-ever CoppaFeel! Conference takes place later this month. Cancers in adults under 50 rose by 79% between 1990 and 2019. The event on Thursday 25 June aims to bring people together to drive change for younger people who are too often overlooked. Speakers include Sharon Hodgson MP, Dr Liz O’Riordan, Caroline Nokes MP, Dr Ronx Ikharia and Prof Lynda Wyld.

Events: Learn about co-production and care equity

The Social Care Institute for Excellence is running Co-production Week 2026 from Monday 29 June to Friday 3 July. There will be a range of online sessions championing the power of co-production in shaping better, more inclusive social care. This year’s theme is Care Equity, exploring what it means to ensure that everyone, regardless of their background, identity or circumstances, has equal access to high-quality social care.
