New podcast highlights AI and misinformation

Macmillan’s SEO manager Sean Barber gives invaluable support to us here at PIF on the topic of AI and misinformation. He recently joined Search with Candour’s podcast to discuss fighting misinformation in the era of AI search. Sean offered insights into transparency about processes and AI use, and prioritising accuracy over speed. The pair also shared examples including incorrect CPR guidance, and confusing emergency and non-emergency phone numbers.

Voice tech in hospitals under investigation 

A new investigation is exploring the use of Ambient Voice Technology in hospitals. Ambient Voice Technology is a type of AI tool used to listen to healthcare conversations and create clinical notes. The Health Services Safety Investigations Body launched the review after stakeholders shared potential patient safety issues associated with its use in hospitals.

Navigating public confidence in changing data system

Understanding Patient Data recently published their first State of the Nation report. It provides a comprehensive picture of public awareness, support and confidence around the use of health data during a period of rapid system change. The report highlights that public confidence cannot be addressed by any one organisation or sector alone. Instead, it should be seen as a shared outcome, requiring coordinated action across policy, practice, governance, technology and communications.

New NHS App promotional toolkit available

The NHS has updated its comms toolkit to help organisations let patients know what the NHS App can do. It contains posters, images, walk-through videos and promotional messages for each of the most popular NHS App features. There is also a general toolkit containing a leaflet, banner and Teams background to promote the NHS App.

How is NIHR research improving lives? 

The National Institute for Health and Care Research has released its annual report, demonstrating how its research has improved the UK’s health. Examples include an evaluation of the work of a mobile NHS screening unit, highlighting the importance of finding lung cancer earlier. The programme, featured in the 10 Year Health Plan, is now rolling out across England.

Paper calls for musculoskeletal health to be prioritised 

A new policy paper highlights why musculoskeletal health should be a national priority. The paper comes from the Arthritis and Musculoskeletal Alliance, a coalition of charities, professional organisations, research institutions and industry partners. It calls for greater focus on prevention, early intervention, rehabilitation and tackling inequalities to help reduce pressure on the NHS.

Best Start in Life issues toilet training resources

The Department of Health and Social Care has launched a PR campaign ahead of the new school year. Using the toilet independently is one of the most significant school readiness challenges facing families and schools. Best Start in Life’s new Toilet Training campaign aims to support parents of children aged 3 to 4 who are due to start school this September.
