Royal Osteoporosis Society launches BoneMed Online
The Royal Osteoporosis Society has launched a new free online service to give people with osteoporosis information about the medicine they have been prescribed. BoneMed Online aims to give people information when they need it most.
Osteoporosis medicines are often taken for many years and thousands of people with osteoporosis have difficulties with decisions about their medicine. BoneMed aims to provide better support to help people make the treatment choices that feel right for them. After a 5-minute survey, users are sent an online medicine summary and six emails over a year tailored to the medicine they have been offered. Topics include:
- Why you have been prescribed an osteoporosis medicine.
- How to take your medicine.
- Fitting your medicine into your routine.
- Possible side effects.
The Royal Osteoporosis Society worked with Keele University as an academic advisor on the new service. The university shared insights from their studies into Improving uptake of Fracture Prevention drug treatments (iFraP). The university also worked with the charity to ensure the programme complements Osteoporosis Options, Keele’s suite of tools that help patients and clinicians make shared decisions about osteoporosis medicines. BoneMed Online was developed thanks to a donation by The Wigoder Family Foundation.
