Free tools aim to help employers take action on menopause

PIF member Work Health Experts has created two free support tools to help leaders better understand what the 2027 menopause legislation requires and put the right policies in place.

Most menopause programmes generate activity – but very few change behaviour. That's what has inspired Work Health Experts to build two practical tools to help HR leaders, DEI specialists and senior teams understand where they are today and what to do next.

From spring 2027, employers with 250 or more employees will be required to produce and publish a voluntary action plan alongside their gender pay gap data. These action plans will show the steps being taken to address an organisation’s gender pay gap and to support employees experiencing menopause.

Assessing an organisation’s readiness

Most organisations are working hard on culture and inclusion, but haven’t mapped themselves against what the 2027 legislation actually requires according to Work Health Experts. Its readiness assessment is a set of structured questions on policy and compliance, manager capability, workplace culture and more.

The online assessment, which is based on current UK legislation requirements, evidence on workplace menopause outcomes and patterns observed across organisations, takes ten minutes. Organisations get a tailored report, a practical view of what “good” looks like at each stage and a prioritised set of next steps.

Opportunity to examine menopause policies

Most menopause policies look reasonable but quietly undermine the people they’re meant to support, warns Work Health Experts. Organisations can upload their policy for free and get help to uncover the gaps between legal and best practice.

As the team point out, small language choices can create barriers to disclosure and limit access to support. They can even increase risk without anyone realising. Policies are analysed against an evidence-informed framework, including UK employment law and Equality Act considerations. BSI guidance, workplace menopause research and policy patterns are also taken into consideration.
