Marie Curie updates LGBTQ+ resources

PIF member updates resources for health and social care professionals and creates new booklet for LGBTQ+ people living with a terminal illness.

PIF member Marie Curie has published new resources to improve palliative care for LGBTQ+ people with a terminal illness. The charity has updated its online resources for health and social care professionals, and published a new booklet for patients and their families.

The updated resources for professionals aim to help them provide high quality palliative and end-of-life care for LGBTQ+ people living with a terminal illness. The updated web page offers advice on providing a safe, accepting and inclusive environment and ensuring LGBTQ+ people receive high quality, person-centred care. It includes a section on language and communication with advice on things that can be done to avoid making assumptions and help people feel more comfortable. There are also links to other resources and toolkits, LGBTQ+ research and training.

New patient-facing booklet

Marie Curie has also published a new booklet, Getting care and planning for the future when you’re LGBTQ+, for those living with a terminal illness or partners, family and friends. The booklet explains the care and support available and answers questions about making decisions for the future. It has been developed with people affected by terminal illness, and health and social care professionals. Sections include emotional needs and support, worries about discrimination, planning ahead, and support for partners, family or friends.
