How to engage under-represented people in health information.

The term 'seldom-heard groups' refers to under-represented people. These are people who are less likely to be heard by professionals and decision-makers. 

This event is an opportunity to hear from expert speakers, representing a selection of seldom-heard groups, on how to engage effectively with the individuals they work with.

12.15-12.30 Reaching seldom heard groups – Individuals facing homelessness 
Taylor Haws and Fiona Campbell  – Specialist Health Leads at Single Homeless Project

Taylor and Fiona share their expertise and experiences working with individuals facing homelessness. They discuss the need for health information for individuals facing homelessness and the most appropriate and effective language to use. They also discussed what in their experience are the key considerations for producing and delivering health information for this user group with practical implementation tips. 

12.30-12:45 –  Cancer information for transgender and/ or non-binary people 
Hilary Weaver – Macmillan and Stewart O’Callaghan - OUTpatients

One approach to engaging seldom-heard audiences is to work with an organisation that represents that audience. Find out how Macmillan Cancer Support worked in partnership with the LGBTIQ+ cancer support organisation OUTpatients to improve and develop Macmillan’s information for transgender and non-binary audiences.
