Mind urges people not to struggle alone with cost-of-living mental health impact

PIF member releases survey data during Mental Health Awareness Week 2023.

People whose mental health has been affected by the cost-of-living crisis are not getting the support they need according to PIF member Mind.

A survey by the mental health charity found:

  • More than 1 in 2 (54%) of people who said they had been negatively affected had not received support from a GP
  • Two-thirds (66%) had not used online mental health information
  • Almost three quarters (71%) had not turned to a local mental health charity for support.

Impact of cost-of-living crisis

Mind is encouraging people to get support if they are struggling.

Almost half (48%) of people in England and Wales who answered the survey said their mental health had been negatively affected by the cost-of-living crisis.

People with existing mental health problems fared worst. Nearly three quarters (73%) of this group said their mental health had been negatively affected.

More than 3,000 people took part in the survey in March and April this year.
