Dr Aziza Sesay becomes PIF TICK Ambassador

GP and health inequity campaigner will help raise awareness of trusted health information.

A GP recognised for her work addressing health inequities and improving health outcomes has become the second PIF TICK ambassador. Dr Aziza Sesay is a GP, vice chair of Black Female Doctors UK and serves as an ambassador for multiple health charities. She runs “Talks with Dr. Sesay” – a platform sharing evidence-based health information, with a focus on women's health, cancer awareness, mental health and health inequity.

She recently gained PIF TICK certification, showing the health information she creates is evidence-based, up-to-date and easy to use and understand. As PIF TICK ambassador, Dr Sesay will support PIF’s mission to help everyone access health information they can understand and use.

'Health literacy is a determinant of health'

Dr Sesay said: “In a time where there is growing misinformation and disinformation online, it’s paramount that there are evidence based, accurate and scientific resources to combat them and protect vulnerable people. I’m so proud to be PIF TICK certified and honoured to be an ambassador as I’m very passionate about health education.

"Health literacy is a determinant of health – the lack of it is the difference between life and death – this fuels my passion. The more we empower people with knowledge, the more lives we can save.”

The PIF TICK

Healthcare professionals have a vital role to play in sharing trusted health information. Six in 10 adults in the UK go to their GP for health information, according to recent Ipsos research.

Dr Sesay joins fellow GP, Dr Nighat Arif, as an ambassador for the PIF TICK. The PIF TICK is the only independently-assessed quality mark for print and digital health information. It is run on a non-profit basis by the Patient Information Forum (PIF), a UK-based charity. More than 140 organisations and individuals are now Trusted Information Creators.
