Research funded by PIF member The College of Optometrists has produced an app to help predict the risk of myopia in children.
The Predicting Myopia Onset and Progression Risk Indicator (PreMO) app predicts children at risk of short-sightedness.
It also allows eye care professionals to monitor progression and create patient-friendly reports to aid conversations around:
- How to manage myopia risk
- Lifestyle changes which can minimise risk
- Available treatments
The app was based on research from the Northern Ireland Childhood Errors of Refraction (NICER) study on myopia.
The study was funded over 10 years by the college and Ulster University.
The PreMO app is now available for eye care professionals to download for free.
